Garden Sign Project

  • The first step in this project was to find out what the residents wanted for their gardens. I asked them on a sunny day, where the gardens were full of people, and came to the conclusion that the signs should not only be a practical way to descern the gardens, but they should also tell a story about who the gardeners were. And they had to be decorative and beautiful.

  • The second phase was making the signs. Not only did I want to handpaint them with accurate looking fruits and vegetables that could be found in the gardens, but this step also included finding a way to make waterbased gouache paint able to withstand harsh weather. I painted the signs on wooden blocks and found a way to mix classic fixative spray for paintings, with a water based tree lacquer.
